If you want to create a stream specific to one of your marketing campaigns (be that email marketing, social media, etc.), you will come across the referrer in one way or another. Here are the options listed and what the most used ones actually mean.



Custom: Content - used when you want to track specific link from a post, specific section; it is set up manually and a consultant would walk you through that
Custom: Google Keyword - From 2013, Google has everything encrypted, hence rendering this option unable to do what it once could (more information here)
Google Campaign - Works with Google Analytics; UTM Campaign name
Google Medium - Works with Google Analytics; how people got to the website, ie. email, social media, ...
Google Source - Works with Google Analytics; where people come from, ie. Facebook, Mailchimp, ...
Sub Type - Some systems pick this up automatically; how people got to the website, ie. Facebook, ...
Type - Some systems pick this up automatically; where people come from, ie. social media, ...
